Above – Livie at her best 100m sprints against the boat…loving the challenge!
HH had the opportunity to “Take 5” with Livie Stubbs recently. Livie is the official HH mascot and obviously takes in more than what we first thought. She is a great testament to healthy living!
What is your favourite exercise?
Short sprint sessions. Man they get my heart rate up! I’m pretty sure these (I.C.E.) sessions are what keep me pretty trim. I’ve heard they are the perfect “fat burner”. I go as hard as I can and then get some short recovery before I go again. Try doing these on the beach and have a friend to go with, it will make you push yourself more.
What is your biggest fitness/health/sporting challenge?
Getting one of those seagulls. I’ve tried all sorts of strategies but nothing at this stage has worked. I’m not going to give up though, my Mumma always says “there is always a way…never, ever give up!”
What motivates you?
I truly think I am pretty self motivated. Any opportunity I get I love to move. I am probably at my best though when I am with my family running on Carlton Beach…that to me is heaven!
What is your best health/fitness tip?
MOVE YOUR ASS…and get recovery time. I personally like to move everyday – walking and running are my favourite exercises but I will swim at times too. I think recovery time is extremely important so I make sure I get some everyday – preferably in the warm sun!
STRETCH YOUR ASS…Man there are some hunched over, stiff as a board bodies out there. I see plenty of youngin’s unable to do things they should and plenty of the older generation thinking they can’t…if only they realised they sure can! It’s all about mindset. I make sure I stretch everyday.
EAT FOR A GREAT ASS. I see too many of my mates filling up on package food. I say fresh – I love my meat and vegies!
What has been your biggest achievement in health/fitness/sport?
My biggest achievement would have to be getting over my fear of water. I had a real phobia and had talked myself out of ever wanting to go into the water. But you know what, after awhile I realised it was all in my head. I got over that by having some coaching (everybody needs a great coach) and with plenty of support, encouragement and some tough love from my family. I guess knowing it is ok to get help is really important. Nothing was going to stop me swimming, wading, fetching, boating…I had to get right out of my comfort zone to get there but it was really worth it. I always reflect back and think “what if I just stayed the way I was, just watching everyone else?” I would be sitting on the sidelines of life watching my family have fun and I would just be the spectator…I want more!
