HH had the opportunity to Take 5 with Dr Doug Blomeley – (Metabolic Precision Advisory Board) is known as “the ripped” doctor and is one who truly practices what he preaches. Doug is passionate about delivering quality health care to Australians in both rural and regional areas.
What is your favourite exercise?
My favourite exercise at the moment would have be the weighted overhand grip chin-up/pull-up. When done properly, it engages a huge amount of muscle, and is a key movement in my training routine. Some have referred to this movement as the “upper body squat”, in view of just how effective it is at improving strength and body composition. Lastly, who doesn’t want a big, strong imposing back?!
What is your biggest fitness/health challenge?
My biggest challenge is a little different to what you may expect… For me, it was overcoming a fear of carbohydrates. Yep, that’s right! I have no doubt I sabotaged and hindered my results for years due to not eating enough of this magical macronutrient! It wasn’t until I became involved with Metabolic Precision that I was able to learn how to fuel my body on the optimal way for optimal results. These days, the more carbs I eat, the leaner and stronger I get! However, when I squatted 120kg for 20 reps, that was rather challenging too!
What motivates you?
My motivation comes from a deep seeded internal desire to improve myself. I’ve never been someone who has required others, or external sources when it comes to motivation. I’m hard on myself, I set high standards of myself, and for me, my relentless motivation comes from a desire to overcome my own self-imposed limitations, and reach my maximum potential in all areas of my life. In saying that, adversity and challenge motivates me, I love nothing more than engaging in a battle with my body and mind!
What is your best health/fitness tip?
The best tip I can give is to train your mind. A strong, healthy body begins with a healthy mind; simple things like meditation can make a huge difference to your life, and I encourage everyone to explore this.
What has been your biggest achievement in health/fitness?
My biggest achievement would have to be when I was appointed as the Medical Advisor at Metabolic Precision. To have such a reputable and eminent group not only recognise me and the work I do, but to go on and ask me to come on board with them was very humbling for me. It’s a role I’m extremely proud to hold, and gain endless enjoyment from teaching and helping others along the way.
