I love holidays! Who doesn’t?
But the one thing that I don’t like about holidays is coming home feeling like the crappers, often because of the food consumed and the lack of exercise! Now don’t get me wrong, a holiday should be just that – relaxing, out of the regular, time to enjoy some great food and wine – but if you are like me and don’t want to get home feeling like a blimp there are some things we can certainly put in place to prevent it.
Really it’s all about choices, and making some smart ones!
Evidence of an I.C.E. workout – short, sharp and intense.
On a recent (and rare) weekend away with my hubby we used those choices pretty wisely. Yep, we packed our exercise gear – but we didnt want to consume our weekend by exercising. The first day we did a quick 30 min routine, the second day only about 25 mins (that included the warm up and cool down). Quick, efficient, we moved as much as our bodies as possible (lol I was just thinking that sounded a bit sus!) I’m not a fan of hotel gyms, but this one was pretty good (at least it had natural light) the session was short and sharp (sounds like an I.C.E. session yes?) If you don’t have access to a gym while you are on holiday – find the nearest park and move your butt in the great outdoors. Hell, I’ve even done a 20 minute workout in my hotel room before – jump squats, push ups, tricep push ups, lunges etc require no equipment and very little space.
That workout made all the diffence to my day. My tired body (from walking around shopping) felt energised, happy and revived! It also set me up to want to fuel by body well.
So what about food?
An example above of some of the choices for breakfast.
If I dont eat my vegies and drink plenty of water I don’t poop (hahaha – yep I did just write that) so I choose my greens or a big bloated gut! Seriously which would you prefer? But that doesn’t mean I didnt enjoy some great food – quite the contrary. We enjoyed a magnificient buffet breakfast on both mornings (the pastries didn’t entice), dined at a French restaurant, China town and frequented a number of cafes.
Going with the right mindset is important. Its all about liberation NOT deprivation! I even had my hubby say “you’re good for me…” I think he was talking about the gym sessions!!
